Table Covers: Types, Fabrics & How to Style Your Dining Table

Posted on August 13 2026

A tablecloth covers the tabletop; a table runner is a narrower piece usually placed along its centre. If you are choosing a tablecloth in Egypt, start with your table’s measurements and the product’s care instructions. The print comes next.

Omash’s Table Cover collection is a starting point for comparing designs. For a quieter base under patterned plates or a runner, look at the Plain Table Covers collection.

Measure the table, not the number of chairs

Two tables with the same number of seats can have different dimensions. Measure the tabletop’s length and width, then decide how far you want the fabric to hang over each side. Check that the drop will not bunch on chairs or get in the way when people sit down.

For a rectangular table, add the chosen drop twice to both the length and width. If the table has an extension, measure it in the position you will use for the meal. Compare your result with the product’s available size options rather than assuming a collection label describes the exact fit.

Read the fabric and care details together

“Table cover” does not mean plastic, waterproof or stain-proof. A washable fabric may still need cleaning after a spill, and the washing instructions can differ between products.

For example, Ramadan AL NOUR table cover-201 is described as 100% polyester. Its instructions specify washing at or below 40°C, no bleach, low-temperature tumble drying and a medium iron temperature or polyester setting. Those instructions apply to that product; check the listing before using them for another cover.

Plain or printed?

Choose a plain cover if you want the plates, flowers or runner to provide most of the colour. A printed tablecloth can be the main decorative piece, with simpler tableware around it. Neither approach needs a matching set of accessories.

For everyday use, browse All seasons table covers. For a particular gathering, check the relevant occasion collection instead of choosing a design solely because it appears in a general category.

When a runner makes more sense

A runner leaves more of the tabletop visible and can sit on its own or over a plain cover. It is useful when you want a central line of pattern without covering the whole table. It will not cover the areas beneath every place setting.

Compare the runner’s width with your serving dishes before ordering. A decorative centrepiece is less useful if it leaves no comfortable space for shared plates.

Tablecloth questions

Are a table cover and a tablecloth the same thing?

In these Omash collections, both terms refer to covers placed over a table. Check each product for its material, dimensions and intended use; the name alone does not establish those details.

Can I use one tablecloth for everyday meals and guests?

Yes, if its size, design and care instructions suit both uses. A plain cover is an easy base to change with different tableware, while a print can do most of the decorating.

Should I buy a cover based on seating capacity?

Use seating guidance only as a starting point. Actual tabletop dimensions and your preferred drop are the better checks.

Compare the Table Cover collection and confirm the size and care details on the product page before ordering.
